Privacy Policy

1. Atam Mission

Atam ID’s mission is to facilitate sharing of valuable sensitive information in a completely secure and controlled manner.

We believe your data belongs to you and should be under your control at all times.

We never collect or share any information without your consent.

2. Identity and Information Verification

It can be useful to have your data verified by a trusted party in order to prove details such as your name, date of birth, citizenship, exam results or eligibility to drive a particular vehicle.

In a physical world, this can sometimes be easier (e.g. with documents such as passports, driving licences and other formal documents) although far from error-prone and risk-free, and far less convenient.

In a digital world sharing this information becomes more difficult as authenticity of digital documents is harder to prove.

Atam ID acts in one of two ways in order to verify and record this in a way that allows you to prove information you may wish to share to others;

  1. As a verifier of information provided
  2. As broker for specialist trusted 3rd parties

We never do this without permission, and we never share any personal information unless you have explicitly requested that we share this information; for example, when you sign up or login to a service that uses Atam ID.

3. Information Security and Encryption

We are unable to decrypt sensitive information you may have provided; when you share your data with a 3rd party you are providing them with an encrypted key to decrypt the information, that only they themselves can decrypt.

Information is not only secured at the transport level (using SSL certificates; the same level of encryption as your bank uses) but at the message level too (even when the data gets to us, we are unable to decrypt it, unless you have shared it explicitly with us).

When you share data with a 3rd party, they provide you with their public key. This is then used to encrypt a unique key that you provide, that only they can decrypt, to be used for decrypting your data.

4. Third Party Data Processors

Atam ID partners with a number of specialist providers of verification services.

These may vary from time-to-time depending on the requirements of Atam’s clients.

Data Processors are carefully assessed prior to being integrated into the Atam ID ecosystem to ensure that all regulations are complied with (for example, GDPR).

5. Data Retention

Atam retains encrypted data (not accessible by Atam) on its own servers for as long as is required by the client, provided legislation has been complied with.

Atam partners may hold data for the same period.

Data will only be retained until it is no longer required, and will then be deleted.

Atam clients are required to stipulate their data retention requirements, legal basis for doing so, and confirmation that this is made clear in their own privacy policy.

6. Right To Erasure

Under Article 17 of the GDPR, you have a “right to be forgotten”. You may request that all data we hold about you is deleted.

By providing us with your public key we can identify all data that is held about you; at your request we will delete this data.

However, for legal reasons, our client may need to hold your data for compliance reasons. If this is the case, this will be made clear as part of their terms of service and privacy policy.

Atam is primarily a Data Processor for other organisations.

7. Right to Portability

Atam ID facilitates sharing of sensitive personal information with trusted parties.

As an end-user of Atam ID services, you may share data with anybody you trust.

Under Article 20 of the GDPR, you may request a copy of the personal data we hold on you. As this data is encrypted, and only you can unencrypt this data, you already have everything in your phone.

8. Personal data of Children

We don’t currently provide services to children under the age of 18 and we reserve the right to delete any information we may receive from a child under this age. We may receive information about children in certain situations, such as an insurance claim or a customer service dispute. If that happens, we will only collect and use that information with the consent of the child’s parent or guardian.

We will be providing services to help parents or guardians securely manage verified information on behalf of their children in future at which point we will ensure our policy on treatment of this data is clear.
